Karen Beale.
She has over 25 years nursing experience and has been in her current role since 2015, she is a non-medical prescriber. In this role she leads a team of clinical nurse specialists across 4 hospital sites and in the community to provide specialist nursing care for all patients on anticoagulants. She has an interest in VTE treatment and prevention, with a special interest in cancer associated thrombosis, atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention. She is a co-author on several publications and has participated in and organised educational conferences and meetings locally and at other venues across the UK.
In 2017 she introduced VTE nurse specialists to the Trust – this team focuses on research, audit and delivering education on prevention and treatment of VTE. She also introduced the role of VTE link practitioners and the vision is for every ward and specialty to have access to a knowledge base. As part of this vision she also secured funding for the CNS team to have access to the non-medical prescriber course.
