This training is 2 days for registered healthcare professionals new to immunisation, both days must be attended.
This training meets the National Minimum Standards for Immunisation training (PHE 2018).
All attendees will gain a basic understanding of immunisation and how to deliver the UK routine immunisation.
The course follows the core curriculum set by Public Health England in their document:
National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Registered Healthcare Practitioners (2018)
And includes:
- Aims of immunisation policy and schedules
- The immune system and how vaccines work
- Different types and compositions of vaccines
- Current issues and controversies regarding immunisation
- Communicating with patients and parents
- Vaccine preventable diseases
- Legal aspects of immunisation
- Storage and handling of vaccines
- Vaccine administration
- Anaphylaxis and other adverse events
- Documentation, record keeping and reporting
- Strategies for improving immunisation uptake
Assessment of knowledge will take place over the 2 study days. You will be required to complete a multiple choice test at the end of the second day – you will be given 1 hour to complete this. You must achieve a pass rate of 80% to complete the course. If you do not achieve this, you will be given a further chance to complete the test on a date and time to be specified.
Following the successful completion of the 2-day theoretical training and knowledge assessment the practitioner can go on to the practical application of training with supervision and competencies
Following confirmation of your course booking, you will receive:
• Important information on training and becoming a competent immuniser guidance.
• Course Agreement form to be signed by you, your practice and your supervisor. This will be required prior to you attending the course.
