We need to urgently improve healing outcomes of Diabetic Foot ulcers and prevent admissions and amputations in Coventry & Warwickshire
As per NICE Guidelines:
- All open wounds should be referred to the Foot Protection Team or Multi-Disciplinary Footcare team within 24 hours.
- All adults with Diabetes should have their risk of developing a diabetic foot problem assessed on diagnosis and annually thereafter.

Did you know?
- 80% of Diabetic Foot ulcers are preventable
- 80% of Diabetic related Amputations are preceded by a foot ulcer
- There are 169 amputations per week in the UK
- 50% mortality rate within 5 years of having a Diabetic foot ulcer, comparable to most cancers
- Coventry & Warwickshire had the most delayed referrals to Specialist Diabetes Foot teams in the West Midlands (NDFA 2019)
- Coventry & Warwickshire Diabetes Foot Risk Screening dropped to less than 44% in 2021 (QoF 2020-21)
Assessment & Management of the Diabetic Foot Training
By attending the training, it is hoped, that you will have an understanding of:
- Current NICE Guidelines relating to the Diabetic Foot
- Background knowledge of Diabetic Foot Complications
- Management of these complications to support with shared care
- How to assess the Diabetic foot at your annual foot screenings
- Practical session on foot screening using your own Doppler and 10g monofilament to sign off your competencies- PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN DOPPLER AND 10g MONOFILAMENT
- Confidence in advising your patients of their Diabetic Foot risk status and looking after their feet.
