Heart valve disease (HVD) affects over 1.5 million people over the age of 65 in the UK. The prevalence of HVD increases with age and its prevalence is difficult to determine accurately because much is currently undiagnosed (around 800,000 people). The number is expected to increase in line with general population growth and ageing population.
