The NHSE Quality Assurance (QA) Framework – What is it?
The NHSE Quality Assurance Framework is a nationally recognised framework that assesses whether your practice has the right environment, governance and culture to support learners coming into general practice.
It covers six areas and acts as the first stage in qualifying your practice to host students and trainees.
The six areas of assessment
Learning environment and culture
Educational governance and commitment to quality
Developing and supporting learners
Developing and supporting supervisors
Delivering programmes and curricula
Developing a sustainable workforce
What does QA mean for your practice/PCN?
Going through the Quality Assurance process isn’t just a tick-box exercise that you complete and forget. This process allows you to position your practice, PCN or Place to benefit from hosting students, now and in the future. Additionally, it serves as a formal recognition of your organisation as a quality learning environment, with QA being recognised by our GP school and other local Health Education Institutions.
What does QA mean for my practice/PCN?
Access
students & trainees
QA is a gateway to hosting learners – from student nurses to aspiring paramedics. Promoting our future workforce.
Strengthen
your workforce
Practices that host learners now are better placed to recruit them later, with students often returning to where they trained.
Recognition
of your quality
QA status is recognised by the GP School and institutions across our region – recognising your educational standards.
Supported
by our team
CWTH will guide you through every stage of the process, with a named team member to help you.
How do we support you through this process?
Through our Quality Assurance team, we have already been able to assist multiple practices and PCNs through the process of becoming quality assured. We aim to make this process as straightforward as possible for you, ensuring you’re able to host learners and grow our future workforce. Here’s how we support you:
Initial conversation with our team
We’ll start with a brief call to explain what the process involves, answer your questions and assess where your practice currently sits against the framework. You’ll also get to meet some of the team who will help you throughout this process.
Guided self-assessment
We’ll walk you through each of the six QA areas and help you identify what’s already in place and what may need strengthening. At this stage, you’ll also meet your dedicated Learning Assurance and Placement Officer (LAPO), who will be with you throughout this entire process.
Assessments and Panels
The Training Hub will conduct our assessment (MDAT Panel), and your application will then go through to the NHSE Quality Recognition Recommendation Panel (QRRP) for formal approval.
Submission and recognition
Once complete, your practice is formally recognised as a quality learning environment. A member of our team will visit you to formally congratulate you, providing you with a framed certificate recognising your achievement.
