Welcome from Dr. Ejemen Ejele – IMG Champion, (C&W)
I am Dr. Ejemen Ejele, a General Practitioner based in Southam and a proud mother of two lovely children. In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I serve as the IMG Champion and oversee the Primary Care Visa Support Scheme for Coventry and Warwickshire.
Throughout my training, both in the UK and Nigeria, I have encountered diverse learning experiences, navigated through various challenges, and developed skills that have shaped my journey as a GP.
As an IMG, I possess first-hand knowledge and experience of the concerns and uncertainties surrounding training completion. Reflecting on my own journey, I recognised the crucial role of guidance during the transition from trainee to established GP. I firmly believe that such support would have made the process seamless. IMG journeys often differ from those of our locally trained colleagues, encompassing unique support structures, experiences, and challenges.
As the IMG Champion, my primary objective is to ensure that all local IMG GPs feel settled, valued, and supported within Coventry and Warwickshire. I am deeply committed to facilitating a successful progression from training to becoming established GPs and beyond.

IMG GP Buddy Scheme
We are thrilled to introduce the IMG GP Buddy Scheme, an initiative designed to address feelings of isolation and foster a strong sense of community among IMG GPs.
For those whom are interested, we will pair IMG GPs together and encourage them to establish connections, providing each other with mutual support and camaraderie.
Once matched, the pairs are free to determine the nature of their interaction, whether it be through occasional meet-ups in person or virtual conversations.
To promote face-to-face meetings and encourage networking opportunities, the Coventry and Warwickshire training hub will reimburse the cost of one tea/coffee (<£4.00), (up to once a quarter), for each participant if they meet in person.
By facilitating these connections, we aim to create a supportive network where IMG GPs can share experiences, exchange insights, and alleviate the sense of isolation that can IMG GPs can experience.
The IMG GP Buddy Scheme is more than just a professional development opportunity; it’s about building meaningful friendships, creating a sense of belonging and enhancing overall well-being.
