This is a 2.5 day course on 12th May, 26th May and 9th June. Please make sure you are available to attend all three days
Learning Outcomes:
- To help raise awareness of developments in and up to date information about contraception with increased knowledge on QOF points
- Knowledge of all methods of contraception with specific development in skills of delivering emergency contraception
- Enable discussion of all methods with patients
- To help general contraceptive consultations and history taking
- Specific development in skills of delivering the repeat prescription scenario*
- Feel confident in giving regular depo-provera injections and giving appropriate advice*
- Understand the importance of a good referral pathway for all methods
- Allows discussion of relevant practice problems and their solutions
Programme
Day 1
Session One – 9.30-12.00 (break of 15 mins)
- Introduction and assessment of needs
- Quiz around the physiology of the menstrual cycle(sent pre-course)
- Understanding hormones and fertility
Session Two – 1.00 – 3.30 (break of 15 mins)
- Quick overview of all contraceptive methods
- What is UKMeC and its role in delivery?
Day 2
Sessions 3 and 4 blend according to need on the day
Session Three 9.30-12.00 (break of 15 mins)
- Thinking through a good review
- CHC – the rules – contraindications and work on doing regular review plus case study
- POP – the rules – contraindications – case study
Session Four – 1.00 – 3.30 (break of 15 mins)
Depo – the rules – contraindications - case study Emergency contraception - How and when? – case study
Day 3
Session Five – 13.00-15.30 (break of 15 mins)
Your session – Bring something interesting from practice to share or a question that can cause discussion - Everyone to partake then case studies
