About the award
Small ideas can make a meaningful difference
The Gill Schweigert Innovation Award is an annual celebration of innovative nursing across Coventry and Warwickshire General Practice.
Now in its third year, the award recognises nurses and nursing teams, including student nurses, who are delivering patient-focused care, leading quality improvements and developing projects with meaningful outcomes.
A nomination does not need to be for a huge project. It could be a small change, a new way of working or an improvement that has made life better for patients, colleagues or your local community.
Practices, PCNs and ‘At Scale’ providers can nominate an individual nurse or nursing team here

Prepare your nomination
Explain what changed, why it was needed and what impact it has made.

Complete the form
Submit your nomination and A3 poster before the closing date.

Shortlisting and awards
Finalists will be invited to present their work at the awards evening.
Your entry
What should the nomination include?
Read the nomination guide before completing the online form. Your entry should tell the story of the project clearly, including why it was needed and what changed as a result.
- Background: Why was the innovation needed?
- Resources: What support or resources were required?
- Process: How were the resources secured and the work delivered?
- Quality assurance: What checks, policies or governance were needed?
- Outcomes: What was expected, what happened and what is happening now?
- Learning: What could others take from the project?
- A3 poster: Include a clear visual overview of the work.

Frequently asked questions
Who is eligible to be nominated?
The award is open to nurses and nursing teams delivering innovation in General Practice at practice, PCN or ‘At Scale’ provider level.
What is the deadline for applications? Can it be extended?
Nominations close on 30 August 2026. Due to the timeframes of the award process, extensions cannot be granted.
Who can apply?
The award is open to all nurses working in General Practice across Coventry and Warwickshire, including student nurses.
Can we promote that we have submitted a nomination or been shortlisted?
Yes. We encourage you to share the news and tag the Training Hub, SWGP or IPC social media channels. Shortlisted nominees will receive a digital asset pack.
Can I ask for advice about completing the nomination form?
Yes. Any clarification that may help other applicants may also be added to this FAQ section so that everyone has access to the same guidance.
Can I nominate on behalf of someone else?
Yes, but please make sure the person or team being nominated knows that you are submitting an entry on their behalf.
Will shortlisted and winning entries be publicised?
Yes. Relevant project information and photographs of nominees may be shared as part of award communications.
Do winners keep the trophy?
Winners keep their certificate and prize funds. Trophies must be returned to the Training Hub or South Warwickshire GP Federation by 30 September 2027 for the following awards.
