Course Overview
This 1- or 2-day course offers a blended learning approach of classroom based and hands on practical training in the performance and interpretation of spirometry to those in a healthcare setting. The course can be undertaken as a single day course (either performance or interpretation) or attendance of both days’ dependent upon training and service delivery needs.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of day 2 delegates will:
- Be able to compare test results with appropriate reference values
- Evaluate change in individual subjects
- Recognise and describe different patterns in spirometry and how they contribute to a normal, obstructive, restrictive or mixed pattern
- Recognise and describe a positive and negative reversibility assessment.
- Be knowledgeable in the pathophysiology of diseases affecting spirometry
- Be able to grade the amount of reduction and match to a clinical context

Activity Evaluation
The course will be delivered using a mixture of theoretical teaching, practical sessions in groups, interactive case-studies and open discussion.
This event is funded, through the Training Hub, by public money. Non-attendance therefore comes at a cost to patients, the NHS, and the public. Spaces at our events might be limited and your absence may prevent others from benefiting from the opportunity.
