  • To help understanding of the physiology of wound healing, including chronic venous and arterial insufficiency
  • Develop an understanding of topical medications and emollients
  • Knowledge of commonly used dressings, including compression bandaging
  • The importance of regular review and supervised self-management plans
  • Allows discussion of relevant practice problems and their solutions
  • Understand the importance of ongoing professional development

Day 1

11.00am         Assessment of a wound, including stages of wound healing

12.00md         Wound infection

1.45pm Sutures, Steri-strips and Clips

2.15pm Emollients, Barrier creams and Steroids

2.45pm          Dressings

4.00pm          Finish

Day 2 

9.15am           Review work done since Day 1, including look at Formularys/Pathways

9.30am          Leg Ulcer Aetiology, Arterial Vs Venous

10.45am         COFFEE

11.05am         Exudate Management         

11.45pm         Introducing the theory behind compression therapy

1.00pm LUNCH

1.45pm Case studies

3.15pm Lets look at some competencies we can achieve  

4.15pm          Evaluations and close
