The theory session will take place on Microsoft Teams at the date and time displayed. Practical training at Wayside House will follow on completion of theory training - this will be arranged during the theory session.
Learning Aims
The aim of the training is for participants to fully understand the anatomy and structure of the arm and the skills required to safely obtain a blood sample.

For all grades of Health Care workers, who require phlebotomy skills to enhance their job role.
Please note a Clinical Mentor will be required in your area of work, to support competence and should be identified prior to learning
Learning Outcomes
- To develop knowledge and skills to perform venepuncture in practice under the supervision of a Clinical Mentor in order to gain competence.
Course Content
- The history of phlebotomy
- Legal and professional implications
- Infection control and maintaining Health and safety
- An overview of the anatomy and venous structure of the arm in relation to venepuncture
- Clinical skills required to safely obtain a blood sample
- Understanding complications and after care of the patient.
- To perform the skill of venepuncture in a simulated environment in preparation for gaining competence in the workplace
- On completion of the practical workshop a competence workbook will be provided, to be completed within your workplace
Although the cost of this course is being funded via CW Training Hub, delegates will need to pay for parking for the practical session. If delegates are more than 15 minutes late for the start of the course they may not be allowed into the course, so please get there in good time. If delegates fail to cancel at least 48 hours prior to the course an administration fee will be charged of £25.00.
